Frequently asked questions

How does the flash (blast) freezing process benefit the food?

Our produce is blast-frozen at the point of origin by experts, which locks in flavour, enhances freshness, preserves nutrients, and extends shelf life—resulting in superior quality compared to supermarket offerings.

How do deliveries work?

We pack all your food safely in our beautiful boxes, with insulation and dry ice to ensure the food arrives to you as fresh as it leaves us. Our courier will deliver on the date you have chosen in the cart, and we will include a returns label in the box so you can get it back to us for re-use. This helps us to keep delivery costs fair and as sustainable as possible.

What sort of quality assurance or endorsements do you have?

Products are blast-frozen and assessed as restaurant-quality - described as “super fresh” with no fishy odors in the kitchen. We also have attracted and regularly serve notable customers such as Dame Judi Dench. Please read our extensive list of incredible verified reviews for peace of mind on each product!

Why choose frozen over fresh supermarket fish?

Benefits include richer taste, greater freshness, nutrient retention, convenience of storage, healthier cooking and avoiding supermarket shopping stress. In short, supermarket fish is never fish. By definition it can't be.

Do you support sustainability or responsible sourcing?

Here at Tom the Fish we work to the Marine Conservation Society's "Good Fish" guide. This is constantly changing, so we keep a close eye on it. We regularly donate to the Marine Conservation Society, supporting the future of sustainable fishing.

Can I find recipe ideas or usage suggestions?

Yes, there is a dedicated Recipes section on the site - ideal for cooking inspiration using our products.

sea bass defrosted beautifully!

tom promised that there would be no reduction in quality from the defrosting process, no 'freezer burn' etc and he was right! The fillets were delicious; I made one of my favourite recipes and it was as good as when I used non-frozen sea bass

Delicious when baked on top of a layer of sliced lemons, with a spray of vine tomatoes and some capers arranged around the fish fillets, and with olive oil to lubricate.

Generous, succulent fillets

Another winner from Tom.

Having being a long -standing fan of the salmon and tuna fillets, we branched into something different and were not disappointed.

The seabass fillets have been great.

They defrosted really easily in the fridge and cooked very well. The fillets are much bigger than you get in the supermarket, much more like what you'd get in a decent restaurant.

They're really tasty too. Won't be going back to the supermarket for seabass now. Thank you!
